Potty Training Your 10-Week-Old Puppy God’s Little Aussies Go-Home Guide
Welcoming your new puppy home is such an exciting season, and we’re here to make your transition as smooth and successful as possible. Your puppy has already been introduced to structured potty habits during their early weeks with us. With a little consistency and grace, you’ll be amazed at how quickly they continue to learn.
✔️Our Foundation: Litter Box Training
Your puppy has been introduced to a clean and safe litter box system using pine paper litter pellets. This gives them a clear, consistent potty spot in their whelping area, helping build early potty habits and spatial awareness.
To Continue This Routine at Home:
Set up a designated litter box near their sleeping area.
Use the same material they’re familiar with. We’ll send some with you if you desire this method!
Praise your puppy when they use it successfully.
Litter boxes are especially helpful during the first few weeks while your puppy is still adjusting to a new environment.
✔️Transitioning to Puppy Pads
We recommend puppy pads as a gentle bridge between the litter box and outdoor training. Use a pad holder or tray to keep things tidy and in place.
How to Set It Up:
Place the pad near their litter box at first, or in a low-distraction area.
Use a gentle cleaner with enzymes if accidents happen nearby.
Choose unscented pads to avoid confusion with toys.
Consistency is key! Try to keep the pad in the same spot until your puppy naturally starts holding it longer and signaling to go out.
✔️Outdoor Training: The Porch Option
If you’re not quite ready for full outdoor training—or you want to set your puppy up for success in all weather—consider a disinfected porch or patio area lined with pads.
Why This Works:
Offers a contained, clean step between indoor and outdoor potty habits.
Reinforces the concept of “going out” without overwhelming your puppy.
Be sure to clean the porch area regularly and always praise your puppy when they use it. This option can also be used during inclement weather or at night when full outdoor potty trips aren’t practical.
✔️Final Tips for Potty Training Success
Stay consistent with timing: right after meals, play, or naps.
Keep your praise enthusiastic and your corrections gentle.
Watch for sniffing or circling as early cues.
Stick to a feeding schedule to help with potty predictability.
You’ve got this—and so does your puppy! And remember, we’re just a message away if you ever have questions.
