Toy Aussies are not a separate invented breed — they are a size variety within the long-established Aussie lines, just like Minis were when they first emerged.

Some critics misunderstand size variety as “not real,” but the truth is simple: No breed began with a written standard. Every breed — and every size variety — was developed through intentional selection.

DNA — Every one of our Toy Aussies is DNA tested through Embark, the most widely recognized and trusted genetic testing company in the U.S.  Embark’s Breed Identification Certificate confirms the breed composition of a dog at a molecular level. When an Embark report lists “Australian Shepherd” as 100% of the dog’s genetic ancestry, it validates that the dog is exactly what it is represented to be — a purebred Australian Shepherd, regardless of size class.  DNA cannot be argued with.  If a Toy Aussie is genetically Australian Shepherd, then size does not change its breed.
